Distance Learning Centre (DLC)

The ICS Singapore branch is pleased to announce that the DLC is fully operational and accepting enrolments
from prospective candidates who wish to prepare for the Institute examination.

This programme enjoys the Course Fee Subsidy offered by the Maritime & Port Authority. Students who

CEO Pacific Shipping Trust (PST). PST was the first listed ship financing vehicle on the SGX. Took the company through successful IPO in May 06. During the two year term, close to doubled the asset base and the revenues.

Ron Wilson, FICS


Ron Wilson born and educated in South Africa moved to Singapore some 5 years ago where he is now a permanent resident.

He has been in the shipping industry for close on 30 years – 25 of those as a dry cargo shipbroker before his current position as an FFA broker.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbroker and holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Cape Teknicon majoring in Economics and Company Law. A former Director and Ship Broker with Clarkson’s South Africa and Senior Ship Broker at Lorentzen Stemoco Singapore he is now Senior Vice President Asia and Manager of the Dry FFA desk at IMAREX ( International Maritime Exchange) Singapore - brokering Freight Futures on a daily basis. He is a member of The Economic Society Singapore and The Baltic Exchange London.

He is a Tutor for the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Dry Cargo Chartering and Sale & Purchase and an Adjunct Lecturer at SMU –ITI/Shipping Business- lecturing in Dry cargo, Tanker Chartering, Sale & Purchase and Freight Futures.

Punit Oza, FICS


Mr. Oza, after graduating in Financial Management and Accounting from University of Mumbai and successfully completing the qualifying examinations of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, joined Precious Shipping PCL in Thailand in 1993. Mr. Oza successfully completed the M.Sc. in Shipping, Trade and Finance from City University (now CASS) Business School, London in 1999. Thereafter, Mr. Oza worked with Astra Shipping in Dubai, Aries Shipbroking in Singapore, Noble Chartering in Hong Kong and returned to Precious Shipping in Bangkok.

Mr. Oza joined Klaveness Asia in 2006 and is now Senior Chartering Manager handling the responsibility for the Supramax Cargo Portfolio in Asia Pacific and also jointly undertaking the activities for Bulkhandling Handymax/Supramax Pool in Asia-Pacific. Mr. Oza’s specialization is in handling the Indian and Thai Markets in which he has extensive experience and has successfully developed and grown these markets for Torvald Klaveness.

Mr. Oza is now a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and also holds a LLB from University of London.

Masood Baig, FICS



Capt. Masood Baig, MBA FICS is currently a VLCC shipbroker with over 6 years experience in tanker chartering. Prior to this, he has worked in Tanker Pacific management as Manager, Commercial Claims and Insurance Dept., backed by stints as an Operations superintendent of VLCC and all other types of tankers. He has a vast sea-going experience on tankers including sailing as master mariner on VLCCS, Suezmax, OBOS and Aframax tankers. In 2003, he was awarded for the getting the Highest marks in the ICS qualifying exams.

S. Vijay Kumar, FICS


Vijay is employed as Controller overseeing the South East Asia Operations of Meditteranean Shipping Company Singapore Pte Ltd for the past 7 years. Previously he has held various Senior Managerial positions with Liner agencies and Forwarding companies in India. Vijay is FICS, FCWA and has been actively involved with the ICS Chennai branch previously and with Singapore for the past 10 years. He specialises in Shipping Economics and Shipping Finance and also tutors the Shipping Business modules for the ICS DLC.
